Similar to crafting, there is the possibility to upgrade your current equipment at a cost of Scrap Materials from dismantling weapons and armor. Look out for raised requirements though! Otherwise you can end up with a chest that needs a level (or two) higher than your own to use... For more details see the Augmentrex 3000 page, as it is the only method of upgrading available at this time.
