Template:Town

From Hellgatewiki.com

Jump to: navigation, search

The idea with this template is that you call it by substitution like this:{{{subst: Town}}} and then save the page. That will result in the skeleton wiki code being copied into the new page you created, so you can fill it out like you'd copied and pasted it there yourself. This is much more convenient then trying to fit long descriptions of things into a template call, for example.

I believe that when you include templates in this fashion, it will only include the template at the time of you first saving the page - so if the template is updated later on, your page will not get the new layout unless you manually edit it. Still, it's probably easier to keep everything in a template page and then rubber-stamp it everywhere, just to keep things as consistent as possible, rather than copy and pasting things around and eventually ending up with slight variations on pages depending on which the source copy was.

Probably a good idea would also be to put links to all pages that use this template as a substitution in this noinclude area, then if someone updates the template they can easily navigate to all town pages that use it and refresh them with the latest update.
