Map of the Stonehenge areas

Stonehenge is an ancient site of unknown powers, and one of the few locations that has been strangely unharmed by the Burn of the demon kind. The sacred location has still been touched by change, as where green hills used to dominate he landscape, great clefts now shows, revealing some of the secrets Stonehenge has guarded for thousands of years. You can watch a video trailer of this new content here, and read the Official Patch Notes here.

The Stonehenge Hub

You will need to be a subscriber in order to reach Stonehenge. You gain access there from a portal in Templar Base. Stonehenge has changed since you last might have visited it with the tourist coaches; big clefts split up the area, and ruins has been discovered below. Strangely enough, there is still fresh green grass here, nature has obviously been protected by some divine power against the demon corruption.

Adventuring in the Wild

Quest to save Stonehenge
Quest to save Stonehenge
When you enter the Stonehenge hub, you'll have access to two zones:
  • Wake Hollow - A deep forest that connects to locked paths to the Essence Caves, where you can find the keys to reaching (and defeating) Moloch the Pit fiend.
  • The Wild - A "raid" type area in a dying forest complete with hellish monuments, monoliths and totems; it is connected to The Foreboding Wild and The Deepest Wild, both of which increase in difficulty.

Both of these venues will be explained further upon in this article.

Moloch, the Pit Fiend

The Mighty Moloch in battle
The Mighty Moloch in battle
Moloch is a very powerful Demon that resides somewhere in the rough countryside near Stonehenge. He is protected, and only worthy heroes may enter his domain. As an adventurer, you have to travel to the Wake Hollow forest and explore the Caste Caves, in order to obtain the essences of the four castes by taking their heads. The Beast, Necro, Spectral, and Primus overlords' heads can then be used to make your way deep into the realms of Moloch, the Pit Baron.

Moloch has some very extinguished pieces of equipment, no doubt gathered from less successful adventurers, that you only can obtain by defeating him in combat, so the journey to his defeat can be well worth the effort. His soul is eternal, however, so the process of opening his sanctum and destroying his corporeal form is a never-ending challenge. You should take comfort in being able to foil his current plans and delaying the demonic invasion.

Wake Hollow & Essence Caves

Demon Essence
Demon Essence
The Essence Caves are the first Hellgate content with non-linear style of play. This long quest chain can be completed multiple times throughout the career of your character as it scales with your character (or party) level. The rewards are rich and many of them are unique to the Stonehenge area.

The mystic Essence Caves can be found in the wilderness areas outside of Stonehenge. Each caste of demon - Beast, Necro, Spectral, and Primus – has a powerful overlord that resides in one of these caves named Ash, Errgoth, Oriax and The Nicor. The caves themselves are sealed by the essential aspect of their master’s caste and cannot be entered until the essence of five Champions of the matching demonic caste has been collected. They can drop from any Rare, Epic, Unique, or Boss monster in any zone in the game.

When you have gathered the required Essences, Wake Hollow is the forested area that will lead you to the Essence Caves:

  • Blood Walk - The Maw
  • Harrow Deep - Hell's Heart
  • Shadow Pass - Torment
  • Skull Step - Lair of the Damned

There are currently different item drops for Normal and Nightmare Essences, and Flagship has not commented on this. When you unlock the path, you can proceed to the newly opened areas and finish off the Essence overlords, and collect their heads once you have defeated them.

Defeating Moloch

When all four cast overlord's heads have been collected, you can travel alone, or with a party, to Moloch's Step, The Necro Fall and finally to Master's Court and defeat the Pit Fiend.

The Wilderness - Raiding

The foreboding Wild
The foreboding Wild
Even with Moloch's devious plans foiled (at least temporary), there is also the ever-present threat of demons lurking in The Wild. With a party of allies, there are demons to kill and treasure to gather. The Wild is a new type of gameplay, focused exclusively on playing in a group. The deeper you go, the harder it gets. The challenges here are far greater than anywhere else in or around London, requiring raiding parties to properly navigate them.

The Wild is divided into three increasingly difficult sections that are balanced for parties of six, seven, and eight. The areas are made for more players regardless of the number of characters that actually enter The Wild, so while you could try to make your way slowly with a smaller group, it will be very hard.

Demons of Stonehenge

With the attempt to overtake Stonehenge, the dark powers has sent forth new types of demons. The Winged Imps rain death down from the skies and swoop in to sever heads of those foolish enough to seek them out. Burning Fiends move amongst the underbrush and between the windswept trees. In addition, foes like Moloch, the Pit Baron, make his violent presence felt for the first time.

The Winged imps and Burning Fiends are all new foes to defeat, while you might notice similarities between Moloch and Errogoth towards nemeses you have defeated in the past. The Winged Imp fire attack is also quite impressive, making it more than just your average flying Zombie.

New Items

There are new weapons and armor that can only be found in the areas surrounding Stonehenge. These new items have very different appearances from those found within London, so keep a sharp lookout for them.

  • 13 new base weapon types divided amongst the Templar, Cabalist, and Hunters.
  • Each faction also has two all-new Helmet types.

Skill Resets

A new feature with Stonehenge is that players have received a one-time use skill reset item, to compensate for changes in the skill trees. This item resets all your skill points, allowing you to adding them all as you see fit again. It is very possible that this type of reset will be available soon again.

New Areas

Example area size
Example area size
The outdoor areas of Stonehenge is significantly larger than the areas in central London. Apart from the settlement that has secreted itself at the Stonehenge triliths, there are numerous new areas to explore. Chief amongst these are the various Caste Caves and grand expanses and dark forests of The Wild. There are also new undergrounds and interiors to explore scattered throughout the countryside. In the wilderness you can come upon old human settlements such as sheds and outhouses.

Future Content Patches

Q. How often will big updates like Stonehenge there be?

We plan to do it at least once a quarter. This is sort of like a mini expansion, and after we get some good feedbacks, we’ll think of updating larger expansions.

Q. Have you thought of other cities out of London? May be through the expansion package?

We have many ideas and thoughts about this. This name itself is made to be that way. It can be anywhere else in the future. Like Hellgate: XXXX.
