All of the Hellgate: London stations have ads on the walls for various things. There has been some debate over the "in-game" commercials and disrupting game play experience over this, and some new features on the ads in later patches.

Background

All of the Hellgate: London stations have a lot of props in them that are to make the environment look like a post-apocalyptic London, where the last year of civilization as we know it was the year 2018. This mean that there are posters on the walls with ads on them, and this lead to quite a debate of the Official Forums, as well as the Unofficial ones. Some players were upset that the stations would feature in-game commercials, and that it would disrupt game play, while others thought it cool to have authentic posters instead of fake ones, that are meant to mimic the real deal. There was talk about changing ads continuously, and Flagship getting ads revenue from them, but no more details on that have become available.

Current situation

The whole issue just died off, as the majority of the players just don't care, and the adds in the game are done in a way to look run-down and authentic. Many players feel this just contributes to the setting, and few even notices them unless pointed at them. As London Underground actually IS full of ads in our current society, it would seem illogical to have stations that are totally ad free. In the end, some ads of nVidia, the Hellgate novels, Dark Horse Comics' (the company that made the Hellgate comic) logo and Mythos (the other Flagship game) ads were in the game at launch.

New Feature

With the Patch 0.5, new features on the ads were included. Some of them now display in-game multiplayer facts in the EU/US realms such as the richest player, the richest guild, most veteran guild, biggest guild. One could imagine that facts such as most Achievement Points, longest played Hardcore character etc could become visible in the future.
