Ravager
From Hellgatewiki.com
(Redirected from Ravagers)
Measuring six to ten feet in length from spike-tipped tail to fang-filled head, these muscular and surprisingly agile demons make up for their lack of intelligence with pure aggressiveness. The common mode of attack for the Ravager is to circle their prey and then coil, tense their powerful hind quarters, and leap forward, teeth bared. Fortunately for the attentive adventurer, they emit a low, barking sound a few moments before attacking, making their vicious assault avoidable for the more fleet of foot.
Caste: Beast

Ravagers attack almost solely with a leap, slashing at your head at high speed. They are hard to hit with a melee weapon while leaping, but tend to land heavily just a couple of yards behind you, where they need a moment to recover after their leap. Letting them fly by, then turning and chopping them up on the ground is far more effective than trying to hit them in mid air.
Community Day Update

Ravager: These were easily the most annoying monsters I faced, including the flying Shriekers. Ravagers leap, constantly, and when I found a level full of them with my sword/shield Guardian, I grew quite tired of their antics. They scamper around, staying out of range, until they get a good line at which point they leap at you and slash at your head before landing somewhat behind you. This is their weakness, since once they land they seem to be stunned for a few seconds, and I soon learned to let them leap over me since they weren't doing any real damage, then whirl around and chop them up on the ground. You can hit them in mid air, Slam worked quite well for that, but it takes good timing and it's probably easier to get them once they land. Or just shoot them, but I didn't encounter them while playing a character with a ranged weapon.
