A massive, gothic-styled blade, the Negotiator was one of the first weapons to be previewed by the Hellgate Team. It debuted in the E3 2005 cinematic, showed up in numerous early pieces of concept art, and even features in the Male Templar Figurine. Early on, it was called the "Holy Negotiator" in a piece of weapon art, a shot so popular that it caught Flagship's eye.

"The Negotiator is a base weapon type, although the name has received such a good reaction that we might give the class of weapon a different name and give the unique weapon that name."

The weapon type still has that name, and looks likely to keep it at this point. What they'll call the unique negotiator remains to be seen.
