Murmur is one of the main characters in Hellgate: London. First seen in Russel Square, where he informs you of a rescue mission to rescue a Dr. Hawkes that has gone horribly wrong, instructing you to obtain the data file from one of the wounded templar that was on that mission – thus leading you into Hellgate: London’s storyline.
Game Information
His ‘snippet’ upon inspection in game–
“It would appear Murmur is willing to share what he knows of the world – a vast collection of inane facts and strange observations – if only to participate in simple conversation.
His earnest effort at companionship in a time when few men offer hands of friendship not motivated by hidden agendas is a welcome rarity.
But where he gets his info, know one knows.”
Quests Given
No known quests given.
Appearances In-game
Murmur first appears in the first explorable area the player is put into, Russel Square. When you meet him he then introduces himself and says that the templar fist (the equivalent of a military unit) that he was accompanying has been destroyed and instructs you to retrieve information from a wounded templar on their (now failed) mission.
He then appears in every station after (and including) holburn, willing to give advice by talking to him, and is assigned as the games advice-giver for quests accessed through the quest log.
SPOILER WARNING
He also part of the party that have to get to the final truth during act V of the storyline along With Emmera and the player, however as you find the last sigil, the final key to Truth, Sydonai appears and attempts to stop you. Murmur, seeing this threat, decides to sacrifice himself and by you and Emmera some time to talk to the truth by facing Sydonai himself knowing that he will lose.
His final appearance in the game is in the endgame cutscene where after Sydonai falls he appears out of the mists at which point you find out that he is indeed a servant of hell and with the destruction of Sydonai he gets a ‘promotion’ to eldest and takes command of Sydonai’s ‘dark legion’. However his role as a hell-servant is largely unmentioned and major assumptions have to be taken as to his roll in hell and his allegiance before and after his death (more so before, after is a question of how he came to command the dark legion after Sydonai’s death.
