Long time industry veteran (he was making games before many of you were born) Matt Householder functioned as the "voice of reason" during his years at Blizzard North, where he kept projects on an even keel and used his calm mannerisms and soothing voice to cool the jets of his occasionally carried-away coworkers. His job responsibilties at Flagship Studios are much the same, and just as essential, as they were at Blizzard North.

Official Biography

Matt Householder's electronic entertainment career spans twenty-three years across coin-op, console, and computer games with contributions as Programmer, Artist, Designer, Creator, Writer/Editor, Producer, and Talent Scout. Most recently, he was a contributor to both Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction as Producer, Recruiter, and Writer/Editor at Blizzard North.

Highlights of his career include being the Principal designer and co-programmer of Krull (1983), his first published game. Influenced by Robotron 2084 and Tron, Krull is a coin-op adaptation of the Columbia Pictures movie and, arguably, the first Action RPG. Matt was also Programmer, Artist, and Sound Designer of Moon Patrol for the ColecoVision. Although not released by Atari, a version with modded graphics dubbed Matt Patrol has appeared on internet ROM sites.

A major contributor to the "Games Series" by EPYX, Matt worked on Winter Games as Producer, World Games as Designer and Producer, and California Games as Creator, Designer, and Producer. Householder brings a unique expertise and immense amount of experience in the industry to Flagship Studios.

Matt is an avid accumulator of vintage radios and has had a number of his collection displayed at an exhibit at the San Francisco International Airport. He also has an impressive array of classic games and gaming systems tucked away in his secret super-villain lair.

Interviews

Matt has kept a relatively low profile so far with Flagship, and has not been featured in any solo interviews. He was included in this pre-e3 2006 feature on RPG Vault, though.

Matt was a more active participant in the marketing and promotion of Diablo II, and was interviewed by numerous sites in the 2000-2002 time period. A few samples.
