Notes

Major Lyra Darius is featured in the Hellgate comic books and the introductory cinematic. Lyra is an MI5 (British Secret Service) agent assigned to tail (for his own protection) Lord Sumerisle in the days just preceeding the 2020 demon invasion. While following Lord Sumerisle Lyra finds a demon's lair full of fresh kills, and is just in time to rescue Jessica Sumerisle from joining them. After that introduction to the demonic invasion, Lyra travels with Lord Sumerisle and helps protect Jessica during the demonic invasion.

Lyra looks to be a prototype for the Hunter faction, and appears to die fighting a Reaper as she saves Jessica in the game's introductory cinematic.

Interestingly, Lyra is shown still alive years later in the epilogue to the first Hellgate comic. There she is healthy, though facially-scarred, and fighting beside Jessica Sumerisle at least 15 years after the demonic invasion. Lyra is not seen in the epilogue to the introductory cinematic, which is roughly identical to the comic's, in content. (In both, Jessica Sumerisle is seen as the Templar leader, as her troops remember the dead and prepare to fight for the living.)

Whether this is a schism in the game's background story or not remains to be seen. Lyra isn't actually seen killed in the intro cinematic, after all -- though it did look grim for her holding that grenade as the Reaper approached and the tomb doors shut Jessica away into the darkness.
