Lord Sumerisle is the commander of the Templars in 2020, when the demon invasion occurs. He is featured in the Hellgate Comics, and the introductory cinematic. Jessica Sumerisle is his grand daughter.

Lord Sumerisle is the commander of the Knights Templar, and the leader of the human resistance in the early days of the demon invasion. He and his knights fight bravely, and are largely responsible for the survival of mankind in London, but his forces are too small to stop the onslaught of the demons.

Lord Sumerisle is presumed to have died in the early days of the resistance, though this won't be known for sure until the game is released and we're able to learn the full background history from the cinematics.
