Location Comparison

From Hellgatewiki.com

Jump to: navigation, search

While the world of Hellgate: London is fictional, and almost all of the game areas are randomly-created, there are going to be some real locations from London, England included in the game. Only a few of these have been seen thus far, and there are definitely more places in the design docs than will make it into the final game, but for fans of the game, knowing more about the real places it's based on can be fun.

We have realistically themed areas like Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Holborn, River Thames, Tubes, Moorgate, Piccadilly Circus, Camden Town, Tower Hill... In terms of specific places, the design docs call for the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament, Piccadily Circus and a bunch more.

With so many of the areas in Hellgate: London modeled after real places in the city, we thought it would be fun to compare just how accurately they match up. Pretty darn well, it turns out.

The British Museum

Here's the British Museum in real life and in the game. Guess which is which? (More screenshots.)

Temple Church

In the Full Intro Cinematic Lyra_Darius is seen taking Jessica_Sumerisle into the Temple Church. This is a real church just off Fleet Street and was previously the head quarters for the Knights Templar. It remains to be seen if Sir William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke will make an appearance as this is the final resting place of one of the most famous of their order.
