Jordan Stock, Assistant Sound Designer

What does your job entail on a day to day basis?

These days I’m constantly making new sounds, revising previously made sounds, and doing various polish and bug fixes.

When and why did you know you wanted to work in the gaming industry?

I can’t say I woke up one day and had a revelation. I think my being here is a result of a natural progression from my hobbies, and interest in games. I’ve been playing video games for the greater portion of my life and have been into computers for almost equally as long. I got into electronic music as a hobby in high school, and started taking it more seriously when I got to college. After college, when it started becoming more apparent that I would need a job, I applied my hobbies toward narrowing down career interests and found a perfect match in video game audio as a career.

If you didn't work in the gaming industry, what do you think you'd be doing instead?

I studied History in college. I’d probably be trying to make that degree work for me someplace.

Can you name a major influence on your work? (For example, an artist you love if you're an artist, a game you loved if you're a designer, a story you loved if you write plot, etc).

I’ve got to send a shout out to Nick Peck, audio director of Activision’s Z-Axis studio. I think a lot about the things he taught me when I’m designing a new sound. I’ve also got a strong influence in Dave Steinwedel, our MC of audio at Flagship. He’s always got a tip for me on how to make something sound better. Plus he tells me what to design, so that’s the ultimate level of influence a person can have, haha.

The Blademaster
By Jordan Stock, Assistant Sound Designer, Flagship Studios

When I play Diablo II, my favorite character to use is the Barbarian. I'm reckless and I need to be using the type of character that can take damage. More importantly, I need someone who can dish out tons of damage as well.

The Blademaster is a member of the Templar faction, and the class's primary gameplay function is to deal large amounts of damage quickly. Like Diablo II's Barbarian, the Blademaster appeals to my play style more than any other class because I prefer to charge directly into groups of enemies instead of taking shots from a distance. I have little concern for my own safety and just want to kill monsters as quickly as I can regardless of how much damage I receive as a result. Lucky for me, the Blademaster can wear some of the toughest armor in the game.

The Blademaster's arsenal leans mostly toward melee weapons. This is perfect for me, since I'm all about getting up close to my targets. There are numerous swords at the Blademaster's disposal, each imbued with various damage types. Combined with the ability to dual wield, the Blademaster is incredibly adept at facing the challenges Demon infested London presents.

When times get tough for the Blademaster, he can rely on some guns to step back from the monsters and fight more evasively; however, I can also rely on his or her unique skills to survive. I can either become more aggressive by using "Sword of Justice" to get several quick hits out, or I can take the defensive path and rely on "Regeneration Surge" to keep me alive. This skill is extremely useful because it increases health regeneration rate as monsters are killed. It grants a serious health advantage in order to stay up close and personal long enough to take attackers down before they do the taking.

I'm so into the Blademaster that I'm inspired to finish up with a Haiku:

They Swing Deadly Swords
The Heads of Zombies Will Roll
London Will be Saved
