Note that it's being propelled by a Hunter in the screenshot; making this the only melee weapon we've yet seen in the hands of a non-Templar. This is a Hunter-only weapon.
An in-game screenshot of the examination screen can be viewed here. The trio of blades retract when not in use, only to spin out when "fired." It is a short-range weapon.

Bladesaws begin to drop in Act 3, and also appear on vendors in both white/unenhanced and blue/rare versions.

This is also the only known two-handed melee weapon at this time, since all swords have been changed to one-handed (as of March 2007).
This weapon was a long time coming, but it might not be the only thing this unusual.
