Fellbore
From Hellgatewiki.com
Fellbore are bestial demons of limited intellect, no weaponry, great ferocity, and teeming numbers. One fellbore is of little concern to any competent adventurer. Five at once? Ten? Twenty? All tunneling up out of the ground right on top of you in an area you thought you'd already cleared?Name: Fellbore
Caste: Beast
Rank: Lesser Demon
Subtypes: Fellborn, Fellbore.
Related Demons: Fell Horde Diggers, Fell Horde Destroyers, Fell Horde Lashers.
Special: Burrow into the earth and wait in ambushes. Attack in great numbers.
- See all the Fellbore shots in our image gallery.
There are a lot of subtypes of Fellbore; if you compare the shots in our gallery, some are black and glowing through hell runes carved into their hides, while others are reddish wolf-like things. All attack in numbers and with surprise, though.
"I'm also partial to our new Fellhorde race of demons - a whole hierarchy of creatures that burrows out of the ground in packs."
--Erich Schaefer, July 2006, RPG Vault interview
Fellbore frequently appear in swaming hordes of twenty or more monsters. (Which leaves quite a pile when they're dead.) During Flux's play time at Flagship Studios in September 2006, he warped his character ahead to midway through Act One near the end of the day, and died about five times in ten minutes, after not dying all day, thanks to the huge swarms of fellbores that kept tunneling up all around him in the British Museum area. His character was underpowered for that far into the game, but it drove home the point; three or four Fellbores at once in the dry River Thames or other early areas were no real problem. Twenty at once was a different story.
Fellbore also change size. Much like the Morphoid dinosaurs, fellbore sometimes appear as small, gonad-like things before popping into full grown adult size an instant later. You see that happening in this shot, where the white flashes of light mark their transformations. Note the small, round creatures that are the same color as the adult fellbores? Those are their young/small versions.
Community Day Update
Flux, admin of the Unofficial HGL Site, reported on Fellbore after some HGL play time during the 2007 Community Day event. (Registration required to read Flux's full four-page mega report.)
Fellbore were fairly annoying. I started meeting them very early on, at level 2 or 3 in like the second subway area, and the way they appear is what makes them tricky. They're said to be burrowing creatures that tunnel up out of the ground beneath you. They do appear from the ground, but at least the low level, basic fellbores I found don't tunnel. They are summoned, appearing three or four at a time out of a rune circle that appears right next to or behind you as you move through the tubes. They do not need ground to tunnel out of either -- I explored one of the train stations with all the metal stairs and catwalks, and fellbores were appearing beneath me even up on the metal catwalks. Whether the higher level fellbores, which have large digging claws and armored bodies, actually tunnel up from the ground rather than simply appearing from summoning/rune circles, is unknown.
