WetaHolics NZ FAQ

Can you give me a summary of the storyline?

Of course! It is the year 2038. Mankind has utterly fallen to the ravages of a Demonic horde old as time itself. The Shadows that have tormented mortals for countless millennia now desecrate our once blue world, corrupting and consuming all in their reach. In the midst of such devastation, a rebellious few still struggle to survive, to stand, and to avenge their broken home.

Players become one such survivor in an isolated London environment. At first, the mission is simple: Live. As the game progresses, players will find themselves more heavily relied upon to subvert the enemy, defeat the Demon menace, and understand simple Truth.

Who are the main characters?

The player character is a cipher; however, Hellgate: London does prominently feature roughly one dozen primary story critical characters. Those include fanatical knights like Brandon Lann, contemplative generals such as the esteemed Lord Arphaun, insane Cabalists called Lucious, talkative ne'er-do-wells, gruff soldiers, plotting madmen, comically suicidal mechanics and archetypical champions. Our story features all that and more!

For reference, some main character names include: Lord Arphaun, High Lord Maxin Summerisle, First Sword Aeron Altair, Seraphim Jessica Sumerisle, The First Seer Ser Sing, Rorke, Emmera Ephram, Lucious Aldin, and Murmur. Each character plays an integral role in the main storyline.

What is "Hellgate?"

Hellgates are the primary entry points for Demonkind into our world. They are sizeable rifts in the fabric of reality -- tears that dominate the horizon and allow the foul Darkness that roils beneath our own realm to storm over Earth and blacken all. They are horrific doorways from which the endless Well of Midnight may pour forth uncontested.

Itsy witsy spider, climbed up the water spout ...

What is the genre of this game?

Hellgate: London is a first and third-person action RPG with extensive single and multiplayer modes.

Do I need to understand English to play?

Absolutely not. Hellgate: London will be translated into a variety of languages. While exact specifics have yet to be determined, we can at least guarantee Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and German versions of our game. More language announcements will be forthcoming. "Ok, we count to three then hold hands and jump into action!"

Will I be able to play from most countries?

Hellgate is designed as an international title and should launch simultaneously around the world, so yes, most definitely.
