Demo Walkthrough

From Hellgatewiki.com

Jump to: navigation, search

The Hellgate: London Single Player demo consists of a small piece of Act I, the areas around Holborn Station, the first real Story Quest and is playable as a Blademaster or a Marksman up to level 5. The choice of these particular classes is probably because they are rather "baseline" in terms of how they are used. Both are less durable than a Guardian, neither of them are considered "Pet Classes" as the Engineer or Summoner, and neither is a "Caster Class", like the Evoker or Summoner. Nevertheless, it's two excellent classes to start exploring the ruined streets of London with. You can make virtually an unlimited amount of characters, so feel free to go crazy!

Downloading the Demo

If you have not yet tried out the Demo, you can download it from one of the following mirrors:

Creating Character

Creating a Marksman in the character creation window can give you many different customisation options.
Creating a Marksman in the character creation window can give you many different customisation options.
The main difference between this panel, and the one that will be available in the full game 2 weeks from now is that you cannot choose any class but Blademaster and Marksman. All the customisation available to those who purchase the full game is here to preview in the demo! • Game Mode: Hardcore or not Hardcore
  • Gender: Male/female character
  • Class: Blademaster or Marksman class

The Tutorial

The tutorial isn't very "technical"
The tutorial isn't very "technical"
Before you are let loose unto the minions of Hell, you need your basic training and this takes place in Russel Square. This is a good thing to do on your first character, once, so you don't miss anything, but if you want to skip it, just check "Disable Tutorial Tips" when creating the character. If you want to have the main points of the tutorial written out, instead of spending 10 minutes of gaming time, look here. The point of Russel Square is to get a feel of the game, start off the main questline, and then off to Holborn Station.

Holborn Station

Holborn is the first station that you reach in the real game, as well as in the Demo. Compared to later stations it is relatively small, and have few exits. Murmur is your constant companion since Russel Square (think of him as a young Deckard Cain from Diablo 2), but you will also find a few other NPCs.

Main NPCs

  • Murmur - Starts off the story line at the end of the first alley on the left as you start.
  • Techsmith 101 - You need to do his quest to move further on in the game.
  • Joey - Optional Quest Giver. A small hint on "Wirt" from the original Diablo game.
  • George - Optional Quest Giver. Wants you to kill zombies.
  • Abigail - Medic
  • Oarf - Vendor

Town Machines

Holborn Station have a limited amount of Town Machines, actually, they only have a Nano Forge and a Stash.

  • Nano Forge - Used for upgrading your gear with scraps from dismantling weapons. Warning! It also increase the minimum requirements!
  • Station Travel Terminal - When you have reached more stations, these can be used for instant travel.
  • Stash - Used for extra storage space. Stashes are accessible from any other station, but there are no additional stations in the Demo.

Nearby Areas

  • Russel Square - Closed for entry after you exit the Tutorial.
  • Tottenham Court Road - Quest objectives for "A Leg Up" and "Dawn of the Zombies". Note: Although this level is not a fixed level, it will always have the same tiles at beginning (collapsed subway) and end (T-junction streets).
  • Holborn Access Shafts - Quest objectives for "Day of the Zombies" and "Break on Through".
  • Covent Garden Approach - Way to Covent Garden Steam Tunnels.

Quests

  • Techsmith 101
    • Break on Through - Find 8 Capacitators in Holborn Access Shafts. These drop from kills and players do not have to go far to reach the quest objective.
  • Joey
    • A Leg Up - Travel to Tottenham Court Road and get Joey's prosthetic leg. Drops from big flesh golem.
  • George
    • Dawn of the Zombies - Kill 10 Zombies in Tottenham Court Road.
    • Day of the Zombies - Kill 3 Flesh Zombies in Holborn Access Shafts

Suggested Quest Order

Just accept all quests as soon as they are available, and turn them in as soon as they are completed, and clear the areas out for extra gameplay time:

  • Tottenham Court Road (don't forget to "talk" with the big flesh golem after you kill it)
  • Holborn Access Shafts
  • Covent Garden Approach (no quests)

Funny Facts

  • The Easter Eggs of Holborn can of course be found in this demo.
  • Vanquisher's Shatterscythe is a Legendary Weapon that you can find in the demo. However much you try, you can't use it though, as the swords minimum level is one level higher than the maximum level of the demo.

That's It, I'm Afraid...

The demo is quite short, but it is a first preview of Hellgate: London so players must keep that in mind.
