The scraps of metal, and pieces that you can retreive from weapons found in the Demon-infested streets, sewers or tubes of London can be used to create new items. In towns with a crafter, you can ask them to create equipment that sometimes are really good. They can require pieces of a LOT of dismantled weapons and armor though.

Hint: People who have better equipment than what quest rewards offer you can selectively choose your quest rewards so that it complements your crafting needs. (E.g. If you are a templar severely lacking in Tech Components for crafting, you can choose hunter equipment instead of templar equipment (since your sword or armour is much better anyway) and decompose it to get more Tech Components.)

How to Craft

Crafting Merchant
Crafting Merchant

By dismantling various items as you play, you gain Scrap Materials that can be used to craft, and upgrade items. In order to create an item, you first need it's blueprint, or the aid of a crafter merchant. The crafter merchant's inventory is randomly generated upon entering the station, the same as other merchants, giving you a selection of 8 items of a similar type (rocket mod, leg armor, etc...). The quality of the items can range from Enhanced to Legendary. As of patch 0.1, Unique items can no longer be crafted in this way.

Individual Blueprints are a random drop throughout London, and the items you can make with them, are too, randomized. Each blueprint is a one-time use thing, whether it is a blueprint in your inventory, or one in the merchant's. In the case of the crafting merchant, another blueprint will replace the one you just used up.

Note

If for some reason you find yourself short on cash, you can sell your stacked components for 5 Palladium each. This means that a full stack of 5,000 of any piece of component will sell for 25,000 P.

Further, you can split them after a fashion... Until in-game click-splitting is implemented, you can instead go to the Crafter or Nano Forge. Select an item to craft (or upgrade) then move your needed components into the correct window. Once you have the smaller stack, remove it out to your inventory in a different location than the original large stack.
