Community Feature Requests

From Hellgatewiki.com

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a page dedicated to easily displaying for Flagship Studios what features the community is looking for in Hellgate: London. If you are looking for a place to report bugs, or actual errors in the game, check out the Known bugs article instead.

This page will start out to be kept unprotected, but that will change if people uses the page for their own agendas, instead of the best of the community. The Community Feature Requests should be opinions that are held by a good portion (at least double figure percentage, roughly speaking) of the community before being put up on HellgateWiki.

Interface Requests

All feature requests directly related to the Interface and settings of the game goes here.

Communication Interface

  • Speech Bubbles

Adding speech bubbles that hover over a characters's head adds a more personalized experience and is more engaging than just a chat interface. This allows more interaction especially in tube stations; giving a more multiplayer feel for the game. This also gives a greater sense of immersion for the player, feeling it is him in the game and feeling there are players around him. No reply from Flagship yet.

  • Chat Interface Improvement

One of the bad things with Hellgate: London is the very cumbersome chat interface, combined with the default hidden window. It is easier to use the Unofficial Forums or some Instant Messenger service to get in contact with people than the ingame chat.
Slated for improvement in next patch.

  • Item Links in Chat

The lack of Auction Houses or similar function in the game makes it very cumbersome to sell/buy items, as people need to write down all stats themselves. Item linking in chat is a much needed feature.
Mentioned to be on Flagship's "to-do" list.

  • Specific Game Mode Channels

For the players that go beyond the normal game, specific chat channels for Elite/Harcore/HCE would be good.

Interface Modifications

  • Customization

In terms of the GUI, there isn't much customization to be done. It would be good to be able to move things around, change appearance of them, or perhaps have add-ons like WoW.
Not a prioritized issue.

  • Inventory Organization

A common request is to simplify the current inventory system, as it takes a lot of time away from actually playing the game, and by that game play pleasure. This could be an "auto sort" button to automatically stack all items in the most efficient way, leaving room, a "one size fits all" item slot (instead of 1x1/1x3/2x2/3x2) or perhaps a list view of all the available items. Many players find going through their inventory to be a constant nightmare.

  • Game Mode Credit

Players that play other game types than Normal feel that they would like to have more credit for the effort they put into their character, be it play at a higher difficulty, or just staying alive (or both). Having visible identification between characters of the three game types would help with this.

Instance Functionality

  • Instance/Boss Reset

It is understandable why FLAGSHIP didn't allow unlimited resets of the instances, because it could be exploited. Instead, players are faced with the undesirable option of relogging. This is tedious for users, including the long loading times and retyping passwords; this is even worse for users with older PCs. A possible solution to this is to allow players a 'reset dungeon' option after they've been in a particular zone for five minutes or after they've killed a boss, or perhaps a maximum number of resets per hour.

Login Page

  • Loading Times

Hellgate has very long loading times in general, and this this is worst when it comes to logging on to the game. Switching characters is a hassle most players try to avoid at all costs. As far as it is possible, the community would like shorter loading times, and in lack of that at least a way to "log off" without exiting the game, so the users can just go back to the character selection screen. No reply from Flagship yet.

  • Switching characters

Many members of the Hellgate: London like to use more than one character frequently, and having to exit the game to change character takes a lot of time. A request for a "log off" to the character selection screen instead of "Exit" is of out most importance.
No reply from Flagship yet.

  • Remember login name

To many players, it is very annoying to be forced to type in user name and password every time they want to play the game. While remembering the password might not be such a good idea, a checkbox for remembering the last used username would be a most welcome feature. This is even more important if the request to be able to switch characters is delayed.

Bugs (ongoing)

Any major bugs in the game needs to be taken care of ASAP. Please check the known bugs article for further information.

Appearance

  • Tilesets

There are a lot of Hellgate: London love in the community, but many still feels that it gets a tad repetitive with the same environments over and over. More tilesets, or more differentiation to the current ones are needed. Suggestions for improvement:

    • More tilesets.
    • Transition between two tilesets in the same zone.
    • Perhaps mix some London layout with apparent demonic change by the Burn.
    • Larger map scaling with higher difficulty levels (nightmare/hell).

Patch 1 will bring more tilesets, as well as a whole new quest hub to play, Stonehenge (Dev Chat 07/12/2007)!

  • Environment Details

All tables, chairs, crates, boxes, chests, shelves, rubble mounds, explorable buildings, etc, are the same. Adding some more pieces of props that are/aren't destructible to spice up the environment would be warmly welcome. More randomized samples of commonly occurring environmental items. Even more unusual things like demon equipment-like things they have left could lay about that looks nothing like human equipment.
No reply from Flagship on this issue.

  • Environment Detail Layout

Further, the layout of the random items is always identical whenever you see them. Certain rooms always have particular piles of trash and chests in exactly the same places each time. Diablo 1 and particularly Diablo 2 were very different in this regard, in that destructible barrels/pots/chests could be found randomly strewn over most flat surfaces in the game, which greatly helped to reduce the feeling like you'd been in a particular room before.

  • Item Models

The look/model of Unique and Set items (when they are added to the game) should be unique. A player can feel cheated if, after much work, Sydonai drops an awesome unique armour that looks exactly the same as the normal Order Torso Armor. In other MMORPGs all set items and many other items have distinctive looks, and others can see exactly what you are wearing or wielding and drool over them.

  • Drone Model

The Drone is considered by most players to be little more than floor polish machine, in terms of design. It would be great if Flagship could make it more intimidating and/or powerful looking.
The Drone will be updated (Dev Chat 07/12/2007).

Item Attributes

  • Restrictive Attribute Feed

Many players feel the attribute feed for item requirements is too restrictive and takes away from character customization. A guideline players follow is to not use attribute points at all until they find an item they want to equip, however, this specific point allocation can differ greatly from one item to the next, possibly preventing the player from equipping desired items at max level. Currently, it is very difficult to plan a character's stats because of this; a re-balance could fix this issue.
With Patch 0.6, Flagship have slightly reduced overall feed requirements of dropped items.

  • Random Upgrades

This issue goes in-hand with restrictive attribute feeds on items. When upgrading items via Augmentrex 3000, or the Nano Forge, there is a lack of foretelling in what new requirements you might see if you upgrade your weapon, and many players lose valuable items this way. Some type of preview on new requirements would be most useful.

Actual Content Additions

  • Shrines & Objects

There are no 'shrines' as in Diablo I and Diablo II. Early screenshots from Hellgate: London featured some, but none in the final game. A return of random holy sites, or perhaps home made personal ones that gives a temporary boost would make many areas more interesting. Other interactive objects like turrets would be interesting to find in areas.
No reply from Flagship on this issue.

  • Shared Stash and/or Mail

Many players would like ways to easily send/receive items between characters and between players. Today it is very cumbersome to move an item from one of your characters to the other, due to needing a player to trade with, as well as shutting down the game in order to relog another character. Shared stash between characters and ingame mail are good solutions to this problem. When it comes to mail, it would also ease up on trading to have a "Cash on Delivery" system, where the receiver needs to pay to collect the goods. Shared stash is on the way. Mailing is also on the "to-do" list.

  • Forum Access

Right now SEA players without US beta accounts cannot access the Official Forum and has no access to the tips, information and builds that US/EU players enjoy. It should be possible to allow SEA players to view the forums but not to post.

Class specific requests, or balance fix issues should be added here, or under the individual class headline.

Skills

  • Lack of Skill Description

Detailed information is missing in skill descriptions. How long is the "cast time"? What is the range of the skill in? What is the radius of the skill? How much buff/damage does it do? For those skills that are tied to weapons, total armor, etc. provide a number based on current equipment.

Blink is really undependable if the player is running, and have a slight lag as it can make the character getting teleported backwards. Blink doesn't work off the third floor of buildings. A suggestion is to let Blink function like Escape, only that you can walk through enemies (perhaps not walls)?

Patches

  • Patch Download

The game patches should be made as standalone files that could be downloaded and later applied to an off-line computer. Many players cannot patch their game because of slow or non-existent internet connections. This would be a great feature for both multi-player and single player patches. Having the files as standalone files will also help any player that gets interrupted during patching, so they don't have to redo it all.
The latest HGL patches can now be downloaded from here.
