Pre Launch Article

This article contains information that is old, or outdated, but saved for future reference, and a historical overview of Hellgate: London through the course of development of the game. These articles are NOT meant to be updated any further. You can find more articles from before launch here.

Cabalist Evoker and Summoner.
Cabalist Evoker and Summoner.

Like the Templar and Hunter factions, every Cabalist will choose their own character from one of the two Cabalist classes. (More classes may be added after the game's release, in an expansion or other content upgrade.) You will pick an Evoker or a Summoner upon character creation, and your choice will affect every aspect of your character.

Additional Cabalist Information

Cabalist Classes

There are two known Cabalist classes.

Evokers are mage-like ranged attackers with a wide variety of skill types. They favor focal devices rather than pistols or rifles, and can wear two at a time (and must wear two at a time to use some of their unique skills).

Summoners are minion-lords, capable of calling forth a wide variety of demonic servants. Summoner skills enhance the abilities of their pets, and may also control the behavior of demons.

Third Class

Hellgate: London will launch with two classes in each of the three factions. A third class is expected to be added to each faction post-release, and it seems a pretty safe bet the Cabalist third class will be some kind of Transformation character. The concept of the Cabalist transforming parts of his or her body have been in the game since the character was announced, but with the Evoker/Summoner character split, the shape shifting skills were removed from the game. See the Cabalist Skills page for more details.

In addition to the transformation skills, there were mentions made of various demon mind control skills, some of which remain in the game for Summoners, and others of which will likely show up on the third class.

Early Cabalist Class Info

The initial concept for classes (back when they were still called subclasses) was that there would be three subclasses of each faction, and that they would each have their own skill tree, and access to a kind of general purpose skill tree. The three trees for the Cabalist were as follows:

Mastery
These spells and skills allow the Cabalist to capture, control, and even train the minions of Hell. Properly invoked, these powers can be used to summon demons from the netherworld and compel them to fight against their kindred.
Evocation
These spells manipulate energy or tap an unseen source of power to produce a desired end. In effect, they create something out of nothing. Many of these spells produce spectacular effects, and evocation spells can deal massive amounts of damage.
Transformation
This school of learning allows the Cabalist to temporarily take on aspects of the demons and use the power they convey. These may be manifest as horns, spikes, elongated limbs, or even tentacles. Some extremely powerful Cabalists permanently alter their appearance in several ways, embedding portions of demons into their skin. This is obviously the most challenging and dangerous path to walk, although the power it unlocks is awesome.

The skills that would have made up these trees were eventually modified and redistributed to the Evoker and Summoner classes, with perhaps some left over for a third class. [[Category:Factions]] [[category:classes]] [[Category:Cabalist]] <nowiki>
