IAH Suspends HGL Multiplayer Alliance Server
After the turmoil at Flagship Studios and the constant rumors of server shutting down, we get confirmation that our fellow comrades over at the Alliance Server will have about 1 more week to play HGL online.
The following was posted by IAHGames Team:
Suspension of Hellgate: London's Multiplayer Service 15/10/2008
Dear Gamers,
The online PC game Hellgate: London, IAHGames will suspend online multiplayer service for the game’s Alliance Server as of 1200hrs (GMT+8) on 21st October 2008. The suspension of service will allow IAHGames, Flagship Studios, and other involved parties to reassess the situation before moving forward.
Be assured that IAHGames has weighed several options and opinions into this situation, and at the encouragement of virtually all involved, from the management to many current players, we feel it is the correct course of action.
All character, account, and item data will be safely retained on our servers until such a time when the multiplayer service status has changed. As such, all the heart and soul you have poured into your characters and Hellgate: London’s online world will not be erased.
Online support of Hellgate: London’s single player mode will continue. The latest v1.2 patch from Flagship Studios can be manually applied here.
The official Hellgate: London Alliance Forum will also be closed. Future updates to multiplayer and single player service will be released via our official site and direct emails.
Thank you for your support and patience.

The good news (if you can call it good) is that the database will be saved and players will not loose their characters/items/mules, meaning that some people have not given up on HGL and will try to find a way to keep it alive. Lets hope that in the end the game is saved and our friends at SEA can join in the fight for London again.

We do know about the news, but it has not been posted. I was wating for something more concrete to pop up. Something that will tell us if the game will die or live on after jan 31st.
Hopefully the Hanbit people will see that keeping the game alive iver at NA/EU will benefit them.

Hi Shay,
Just checking the date of your post, which is the last one here, and am wondering if it's been posted yet that HanbitSoft has indeed purchased the IP for HGL and that there's still quite a bit of conjecture about whether or not there will be continued support for HGL in the EU and US regions.
There's also a blog dedicated to HanbitSoft that has the latest info:
http://hanbitgame-espresso.blogspot.com/
(I do apologize if this has been posted elsewhere... haven't had a chance to review all the forums yet and have been away for a bit)
They are at least starting to put out some english-speaking press, and while they haven't said they ARE supporting the EU/US regions, they haven't said they won't either.
There has also been large-scale discussion on the differences in business models between the Korean version and the 'western' version, where in Korea (as far as I can tell from the research I've done), the game is free to play in acts 1 and 2, then you pay to progress further.
If this is indeed the case, it will obviously necessitate a major patch release, which, coupled with the fact that HanbitSoft would undoubetedly wish to move the game to a server farm that they control, it's not surprising at all that they're announcing server 'shutdown' as opposed to server 'downtime' (the term 'downtime' obviously making the inference that there will be 'uptime' again in the foreseeable future).
Plus, if they do intend to support the western regions, they will have to totally re-launch the game for all intents and purposes, which they can't do until they have the Abyss Chronicles, 2.0 updates to gameplay and bugfixes, and possibly even the very cool-looking CTF mod. All of this will 1) take dev time and 2) require them to get their ducks in a row with their new distrobution model as well, since if they follow the Korean model, the game is downloaded for free and you start paying if you want to progress past act 2.
All this could take some time.
Again, sorry if this is a re-hash and has already been discussed, it's just that I thought this thread could benefit from the near daily research that me and my m8's have been doing since the announcement.

Yeah keltoss..it's a sad day today. Hopefully someone will pick up the game, release 2.0 for everyone and that will show people how much fun HGL
We'll be on the look out for more HGL news so just check this place out every now and then. If some big news comes, we will most likely send an email mentioning it so make sure you can get emails from us.

It would be nice if they could allow you to download your characters to play SP.
Oh well, I am not surprised by this move. It is sad but better than expected in that they seem to be trying to find a way to save the game.
Here's hoping...
