Captaining The Lifeboat: Runic Games’ Max Schaefer and Travis Baldree

15th Aug 2008 06:34 PM GMT | Shayagor | 4 comments

A few days after announcing Runic Games, information start to trickle out about what happened during the final days of Flagship Sudios as well as more information on what Runic Game's plans are. Check out Gamecyte for more on this exclusive.

This is some very interesting news. We get a lot of information about what was going on behind the scenes and what they tried to do in order to save the company. We also get some direct hints at what is going on with Hellgate and I do hope all turns out well.

I think they will keep the MMO but maybe start a local MMO. Then expand as more resources are available. Something they have learned from FSS is that you have to think small to be big.

They tried to do too much and were left with something small (but good and friggin enjoyable!).

I am looking forward to their next announcement.

It sounds like the did lose the IP rights in their entirety. There might be a chance for the ex-Mythos people to get the right to that again, perhaps, but with some of the people who were behind HGL being involved the owners may not want to go that route?

Sounds like whatever Runic ends up doing they won't be biting off too much this time around. "Mythos" without the MMO aspects, perhaps? Do matchmaking through Gamespy or similar service instead of having a persistent world...
The issue, of course, is that that's what Diablo 3 is doing.

Yeah, it seems that they are having problems getting Mythos and HGL seems to be in Namco/EA's hands. Still there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on, but I think that this month we will get some more news.

Well,it sounds like they;re not sure what is going to happen with the IP of Flagship and that they may not get it at all. Am I reading that right?
