Servers Stay Online

24th Jul 2008 03:24 AM GMT | Rush | 3 comments

A statement from Namco this evening indicates that the Hellgate servers are to stay online for now while they figure out what to do next.

Hello Hellgaters,

I know everyone is looking for an announcement, and we'd love to make one -- but right now, many things are in flux and we don't have all the information yet. As soon as we do, we'll post here on the forums, on the website, and anywhere else we can find you.

In the short term, please do not worry. The game is up, the servers are not going away in the short term and any major changes to status will be communicated in advance.

I'd like to ask for your patience as we try to figure it all out and chart a new course. We value your community, your commitment, and your passion for Hellgate and we will make sure that any solution that we architect will support all of you as best as we are able.

Thanks again. We hope to have a real announcement shortly.

Zack "Ozuri" Karlsson
Sr. Director, Business Development
NAMCO BANDAI Games America, Inc.
Thanks IncGamers.

Yea, I know it's wishful thinking. I also hope I am right...trying to be positive. I would like to be able to pick up the game in a few years and play it again. Not saying I won't play until then but you know what I man.

There are so many examples of people buying a game, that is housed on some server somewhere and when that server shuts down it is all over. It is sad and kind of a rip off. But that is the state of MMO's and I guess that's the risk you take when you buy it.

Wow, that's a whole lot of wishful thinking there, Dacar92.

... but I hope you're right. :D

I suspect they're trying to work out a way to have it be able to stay up and still pay the bills. Perhaps going to expansion packs instead? Or maybe a re-release once Patch 2 gets completed? Though I'm not sure how they're going to complete it at this point, with most of the team looking for new jobs...

Maybe they're trying to figure out a way to get all content into a single player patch download, and get characters off of their servers on to people's computers so people can continue to play the game after they close down the game servers.
